A day full of Bs
The day started off with Cambria practicing writing the letter B! She’s getting SO good at writing. She loves doing preschool and is so cute!
Later, after Derk, Kyrie, and Asher got home, we went bowling. Jonathan doesn’t bowl, but he had a (hopefully!) good time watching me lose terribly.
It was a fun Friday.

Jonathan!
My brother is here visiting us for a while, and we are having a great time! Unfortunately I forgot to take the camera to the airport when he arrived on the 22nd and have basically slacked in the picture department. But I did get a few today.
He and Derk were sitting on the couch together, each on a laptop, and I thought they just looked so cute and snapped a couple pictures!
Then tonight Jonathan got into my camera and had some fun snapping pictures! They just crack me up (Kyrie is sucking on an ice cube in the bottom one, lol).
Here’s a really cute one of Jonathan and Cambria:
Then he insisted I get in a few! Here’s the most decent one of Jon, Kyrie and I:
My bro and me! I’m only showing this picture because to show how handsome he is (I look dreadful!). I love him so very much and am SO glad he’s here!!

Math night
Tonight at the kids’ school they had a math night, which is where they introduce the math program they use called MAC-Ro. We knew all about it because Kyrie did it last year, but since Asher didn’t do it last year (it’s only done in 1st-5th grades) he was super excited about going to the math night. I sat at the table with him while Derk was with Kyrie, so I didn’t get any pictures of her. But Asher had a blast! Here he is playing math war with his teacher, Mrs. Swope. She was super impressed with how great he is at math already! You play the game just like regular war, but the object is to blurt out the sum (or difference, or product, or whatever you want to do) before your opponent. Asher got so excited each time he beat Mrs. Swope, especially when she went on and on and said he was too fast for her!
The highlight of the night was the guessing game, though. Each grade had a container filled with candy, and they all had to try and estimate how many pieces were in each container. Asher guessed EXACTLY right and won the container of Starbursts! Kyrie would have won, too, if she’d have listened to Derk when he told her to put down a guess of 42 (but she decided to put 30 instead). She was in awe that her dad got it right, and of course he just said she should never have doubted he was right because he knows everything! Ha! Here’s the proud winner, who became slightly less enthusiastic when his mother informed him that no, he would most definitely NOT be consuming all 96 Starbursts that evening.
I wasn’t too thrilled about going to this math night because I’d actually completely spaced it until Kyrie reminded me a half hour before it was supposed to start (which is right when we sat down to dinner, of course). But I’m really glad we went because we learned some fun math games that the kids just thought were the greatest. So far they both really enjoy (and are good at) math, which I hope they never lose.

Monster High dress-up party
Kyrie’s friend Savannah had her birthday party tonight, and it was a dress-up party. I’ve never even heard of Monster High, but apparently it’s pretty popular right now. Thank goodness we don’t have cable because it sounds quite silly. But ANYWAY, I think Kyrie’s costume turned out really great! I refused to spend $10 on a wig, so I tried the hair dye spray from the Halloween section. It was actually really easy and looked even better than the wig did!
Kyrie went as Frankie Stein. Here’s what the picture on the costume package looked like:
And here’s Kyrie:
Good likeness, eh? We couldn’t get her hair as white as we wanted, but the fumes on that hair dye is just incredible and we couldn’t handle any more. Luckily it washes out easy, too. She had a total blast at the party!

Shopping carts, water colors, and Zelda – oh, my!
Today started off with Cambria giving Zelda a ride in the shopping cart!
After that, we decided to do a craft. I bought a bunch of coffee filters to use in our crafting, and I gave Bri a couple and let her paint away.
I was completely floored when I walked by a few minutes later and saw what she’d painted! I didn’t think she’d done it on purpose, so I didn’t ask her about it because I didn’t want to influence her creativity. When she was done, she excitedly came and found me and said, “Look, Mommy! I painted the Earth!” Um, why yes, you certainly did!
Is anyone else as amazed by that as I am?! Insane!
Zelda stayed put in the shopping cart for most of the painting, and then she decided to curl up on the rug instead. As annoying as these cats are, they sure are cute.
