Fun with Grandma

Derk's mom came down for a visit, and we had the best time! She was here a week, and time just flew by so fast. We dropped her off at the airport last night, and none of us could believe her visit was over already. After we dropped her off, Kyrie was really sad and said, "Next time we shouldn't have so much fun so time doesn't fly by so fast!" So sweet.

We stayed busy the entire week and did so many fun things. Her first day here was Asher's first day of preschool. Some of my friends and I started a little preschool where we each take turns hosting at our houses and teach the lessons. He goes on Tuesdays and Fridays for 2 hours each day. There are 5 kids, and Asher is the only boy, but he doesn't care one bit and has the best time. It was so neat to have Grandma here to share in this fun day with him!

Ready to go and then with his classmates (Jane, Lizzy, Kaelyn and Saige)

Wednesdays are Kyrie's soccer practice days, so Grandma got to come with us to watch Kyrie in action. It was so nice to have an extra set of hands to keep the other kids busy, and Grandma and Cambria had a really fun time together. Kyrie had a really good practice, and it's so neat to see her team getting better and better each week.

Derk took Thursday and Friday off from work, and we headed over to San Diego. Thank goodness for Priceline -- we got a hotel room for $50 a night instead of the average $137!! We spent Thursday afternoon at the San Diego Natural History Museum. I'm not exactly sure what I was thinking when I decided to take 3 young children to a museum, but I think we had a pretty great time considering. We saw all kinds of fossils and replicas, they had a ton of hands on exhibits, gorgeous artwork and statues and we watched a cool movie called Pole to Pole on the giant screen, which talked about different animals from the North and South poles -- how they hunt and what their diets are like, hibernation, giving birth to their young and a little about the weather in different locations. It was extremely interesting, and the kids seemed to retain a lot of what they learned.

Friday we spent the day at Sea World and had a total blast! We got a special 2-for-1 ticket deal where we get to go back one more time during 2009. We can't wait! We could have spent an entire day just watching the amazing shows. We saw a really cool otter show and the Shamu show. We went to a tide pool where we got to touch sea stars, and we got to pet dolphins! They even had a few rides and a really cool play area for the kids. We were there from open to close, and I've never had 7 hours go by so fast!

Then we spent a half day on Saturday at the San Diego Zoo before heading back to Yuma.

And here are some more random fun pictures from our week -- the park and Grandma painting the kids faces at our house.

We love you, Mom!
Come back soon!!

It looks like you had so much fun with your mother-in-law. When you live far away from family it makes the visits that much more wonderful.

How fun Hillary! I love that your Mom can paint faces like that! I thought it was a professional from Sea World that had done it. Great job! Glad you had such a nice visit!

Jeez, Hill, looks like you guys had a real blast! Perfect time of the year to come, too, since it is not too hot but not too cold, if you know what I mean. I'm really glad you all had fun. Now it's time for me to come back! ;o)

Brilliant pictures, by the way. Once again I'm totally envious of your new camera!

Oh I forgot to add, is it just me or is Jean better at face painting than the professional at the zoo? Mad props to her! ;o)
