Kyrie's birthday party!

Kyrie has been begging for months for us to let her have a sleepover. We kept telling her no, that she needed to be a little older. She was so insistent on wanting one for her 7th birthday. I kept having this feeling that we should let her do it, so we did. Originally we were going to have it the weekend of her birthday, but then Kyrie wanted to wait until Grandma was here. Then, once Grandma got here, we really wanted to go to San Diego, so Kyrie decided to postpone it one more week. What a trooper!

Asher and I kicked off the afternoon by making Kyrie cupcakes for the party. It was sweet -- Asher really doesn't like to help in the kitchen, but he was all about helping when I told him these were for Kyrie. :)

Kyrie wanted a rock star party, so I took that theme idea and ran with it. We started off the party by having the girls dress up -- costumes, rocker glasses, hair glitter, the works.

Giovanna and Cambria glittering each other's hair

Then Derk set up his small amp and his microphone, and we had a karaoke contest! We had the kids come up with their own songs and just let them go to town. The girls did a song from one of their favorite Barbie movies and then a few from Beauty and the Beast and The Little Mermaid, while the boys did their own hysterical versions of who knows what song. The lyrics weren't very distinguishable, but they were sure cute singing them! :) Derk was the judge, and all the kids earned a title of some sort ("Most Creative Song", "Best Duet", etc). They had so much fun with this and went through, I think, 4 rounds before our heads were begging for another activity. :)

Karaoke, Line 1: Giovanna, Kennedy, Cambria
Karaoke, Line 2: Asher, Kyrie and Giovanna, Richard
Karaoke, Line 3: All the kids -- Kyrie, Asher, Cambria,
Giovanna, Kennedy, Vivian, Carissa, Richard

After that, the kids did a little fashion show. Then we ate some pizza and sent the other kids home. Kyrie and her friend Kennedy got into their jammies, and we made a bed for them in the living room. They thought that was the coolest thing ever! "You mean, we get to sleep in the living room?! Yes, yes, we're just that cool. :) They stayed up way too late giggling, playing hot potato, eating popcorn and watching a movie. I had to laugh when I kept having to go downstairs at nearly midnight to keep saying, "Goodnight, girls!" over and over, just like my parents did. :) Fun times.

It was a crazy, like really crazy, but super fun night. We sure love this girl and think she's one cool kid!

Wow, this looks like so much fun!

Now I'm worried that she's outgrowing her campouts with Aunt Rebecca in the tent, though : (.

I better come down and have a Rock Star night with her before she forgets all about me : )!
