Best. Dad. Ever.

This morning I was reminded of just how much I love my husband and what a wonderful Daddy he is.

Kyrie didn't look so good this morning, but she insisted she was fine and wanted to go to school. Against my better judgment, I let her go. Not even an hour after she'd left to catch the bus, her school called Derk to tell him she'd started throwing up (I'm not sure why they called his cell instead of our home phone, but I digress. . .).

When he called to tell me she needed to be picked up, he told me he'd go get her so I didn't have to. A little while later, I heard the garage door open, so I went out to help her inside. When I opened the door, I saw that he'd stopped at the store to pick her up some Sprite, Tums, ice cream and. . .

Flowers.

He wanted to cheer her up, so he bought her flowers. Is that not the sweetest thing ever?! I helped her into bed and then brought up her flowers in a vase. When she saw me come into the bedroom with the vase, her face just lit up and she proudly said, "Daddy got me flowers!" I know he did, sweetheart. And you have the best Daddy ever.

I know you don't check in on the blog very often, Derk, but if you read this, I want you to know how lucky we are to have you. You're the most thoughtful and loving man I've ever met. We all think you're the best dad ever. I love you so much, and I'm so blessed to have you as my eternal companion and the father of my children.

That is so sweet! And I love the way the picture is framed- the flowers are just the perfect cheery contrast to poor, sick Kyrie and the throw-up-ready trash can :(. I know they'll cheer her up. Give her a big hug from us! And Derk too- what a good daddy : ).
