Camping

We decided to take the kids camping this past weekend. Our weather is already warming up, so we figured we'd better get some camping in before it gets too hot. Little Bri had never been, so we were pretty excited to see what she thought about it all.

We did some research online and decided to try out Senator Wash Campground this time. There are tons of camping sites to choose from, and after quite a while of driving around, we finally decided on a spot right near Imperial Dam so the kids could go swimming.

It was pretty interesting getting our tent set up. The wind was blowing so hard that it took Derk and I plus Kyrie to hold it down long enough to get it up. And then we had to put 6 large rocks on the inside so it wouldn't blow over. Desert camping is a lot different because there really aren't any trees to block the wind. We had no idea just how windy things would get, though! Derk and I were up all night long because the tent was shaking like crazy and the wind was howling. The kids slept through it like troopers, though, so we were happy.

Funny story about getting the kids to sleep that night. Kyrie and Asher were just goofing off like crazy and wouldn't settle down. After we'd been "letting them run out of steam" for over an hour, Derk decided to get tricky. He had no idea it would work as well as it did, and we laughed about it for a long time afterward. He told the kids that their loud noises would attract the badgers. They were instantly quiet. Kyrie didn't even argue, which is saying something. :) All 3 of them were asleep within 30 seconds after that. It was hysterical.

I didn't take too many pictures, but here are a few that I did manage to snap.

Kyrie was really proud of this rock she found

And she loved helping Daddy find firewood

The racoon print
(it's kind of hard to see, but it's right in the middle of that circle-ish crack in the mud)

Trying to skip rocks

Me and my girl

Asher really enjoyed throwing rocks
and kept going long after the girls were tired :)

He also thought shining the flashlight in the
dark was the coolest thing ever :)

And a couple of cute videos

Camping fun fun fun! Abbie is always asking when we can go camping next- that's so fun that you can go so early in the year : ).
If your kiddos want to see more than a raccoon print they can check ou the big one that's been hanging out in the greenbelt right behind our house : (.
Also, the picture of Kyrie and the rock totally cracks me up- I had to reread what you wrote, because when I looked at it it looked like she had taken a bit out of a big sandwich or something and was chewing it in her cheeks : ).
Hooray for camping!

We are sooooo jealous. There have been a few days of sun, but it's really, really cold still. Jeff went camping the other weekend with the scouts and the kids wanted to go so bad. Alyssa has been drawing pictures and talking about all the camping she is going to do this summer!
