I'm going home!

I'm still in the hospital, but I'm getting discharged today! Like I said on Sunday, they were waiting for my blood to coagulate between a level of 2-3. This morning it was at a 2.1, which barely makes it into the range they were looking for. Whew!! As far as I know right now, I'm going home on both the injections and the pills, but I'll only have to take the injections for a couple of days until my number is a bit higher.

I have to have my levels checked frequently because of the medication I'm on. The doctor told me this morning that for the next week, they want me to come in EVERY DAY to the lab to get my levels checked! How am I supposed to manage that?! My goodness, that'll be rough. But they just want to make sure I'm stabilizing, which I understand. I just hope they'll be okay with me coming in sometime in the afternoons because Derk's missed enough work already!

I'm feeling pretty good. They had me walk around the hospital this morning to monitor my oxygen level while I was up and around. It stayed in the 90's, which is great. I did get a bit light headed, though, but I think that's because I've only been up long enough to shower in the last 4 days. Until the clots are all dissolved, I'll have to take it a bit easy, but I'll be free to resume all normal activity once that happens.

The pharmacist came in this morning to talk to me about the medicine I'm taking (Coumadin). I have to be very careful about how much Vitamin K I consume because Vitamin K thickens your blood, which is what I'm trying to avoid. So I just have to eat things like spinach, avocado, broccoli and cabbage sparingly. Kinda stinks, but it's manageable.

Thank you all for your phone calls, emails and prayers! This was so scary, and I'm beyond humbled to think of how my life was spared. I appreciate all of you so much! And I'll update again once I'm finally back home with my family!!
