Cambria's culinary creations

How I love alliteration.

Anyway.

From about 4pm to bedtime is a really crazy time at our house. The kids are all getting grumpy, hungry and tired. I typically start making dinner around 5, at which point Cambria decides she's desperate for me to hold her. Derk will try to take her and keep her occupied, but she just won't have it -- it's Mommy or Bust. Even being pretty much a multi-tasking queen, I just can't cook dinner and hold Bri at the same time. Maybe I'm slacking in that department. But santoku knives and holding children just don't mix.

Once we moved here and got a muuuuuuch larger kitchen (love it!!), Cambria has been so much easier to deal with. Now I'm lucky enough that most nights, instead of clinging to my legs, looking up at me with those adorably sad eyes and whining, "Hoooooold yooooouuuuuu!!!" over and over like the Energizer Bunny (she keeps going and going and going and going.......you know the commercial.), she now gets into one of the cupboards and occupies herself that way. And I do mean "gets into" in the most literal sense.

It's quite cute. She pretends she's cooking, too, just like Mommy. I'll give her a spatula or a whisk, and she'll stir away and then come running over to me saying, "EAT IT!" in this adorably demanding little voice. I can't refuse her, of course, so I have to repeatedly taste her culinary creations. When I ask her what she's making, she'll just say, "Ummmmmmmm.........", and then she'll forget I was talking to her and continue stirring. :)

Another Cambria funny is that since I ask her what she's making, she's now taken to asking me what I'm making. Every time I'm in the kitchen. Only she says it way cuter than I do, "What making, Mama? What making?"

What a cute little rascal. Lauren gets pretty clingy during dinner prep time as well. Have you tried popping her in her highchair with some play bowls and a spoon or a little snack? That's how I get my relief- Lauren will just sit and play (not destroying the kitchen) while I cook : ). Love ya!
