Happy Birthday, Derk!

The Big 2-8! I wish he hadn't had to work on his birthday, but such is life. He got serenaded by our nieces, Abbie and Lauren earlier in the morning, which he thought was the cutest thing ever. He came home around 4, and then we had chicken in a basil cream sauce for dinner and then I made a chocolate cake for dessert (the candles are in the shape of the # 28, if you can't tell). Asher had a really fun time helping me with the cake and kept trying to eat the raw cake batter.

It was actually pretty perfect that his birthday fell on Monday night because his birthday cake served as our Family Home Evening treat as well. Gotta love double duty things. :) The kids sounded so adorable singing him Happy Birthday, and they kept singing it long after the candles were blown out. By about the 10th round, Cambria was singing along much better than she does in the video. Adorable.

Here are Derk and Asher on Derk's 25th birthday in 2005 and then again 3 years later in 2008. I just thought it would be really fun to compare these 2 pictures side-by-side. I think I have the 2 most handsome boys ever. :)
